A Great Talent Gone

It was only earlier today that I was looking at his 2005 album, which came out on I assumed to be an independent label. I was shocked to read this a few minutes ago on the BBC website, but I knew he was fighting cancer but as I hadn't heard much of him I was under the assumption he was getting better. Alas it was not to be as Lynden David Hall has died after a two year fight with cancer. He was a talent that has been taken from us far too early and my deepest regrets go to his family and wife. In my book he was the best soul singer we had in the UK but as with most things black music related things here in the UK, success wasn't always forthcoming. Keep your eyes peeled for podcast in celebration of Lynden David Hall.

He will be missed!
You raise every good point re: success of Black British artists in the UK.
Channel 4 news did a segment last week on this very issue. The general view is that the emphasis right now is either on Brit Pop/Indie - guitar playing white males or reality TV contest winners (XFactor etc).
One of the commentators noted that though shows like Xfactor are supposed to bring to the fore musicians who would otherwise be overlooked, black contestants irrespective of how talented always seem to lose out to white contestants.
Sway was also interviewed and he certainly highlighted how hard it was for him to achieve the level of success.
I think that is why LDH's death stings even more - he was extremly talented, he didn't receive the recognition that he deserves and UK music has lost a true gem!
